So I was out today in this heat to get some food for dinner and I came across a homeless man I have seen a lot the last few years. We talked about the heatwave that is in my area this week and up to next Tuesday. We are taking up to 108 or maybe even 110 degrees F, that is not pleasant to deal with. We talked about another homeless man who was sent to the hospital after he was coughing really bad for a few days and now this man is in the ICU. He then mentioned about how he was trying to get money for a hotel room to escape this heat at least a day.
I am dealing with some financial hardship again yet when he mentioned the hotel I said hold on and went back to my van. I came back with some cash and told him to promise me he will use it for a hotel room. He asked if it was ok and I said yes that I received some recent blessings from the Lord so I could better afford to help him out. This post isn’t a pat on the back, but rather something I thought about after he acted so touched from my help. It is hard to help others when you are dealing with your own issues and I think that’s why more people don’t help like they want. I wish I could have done more but I am always worried I will hurt myself if I do give out help like money. No is isn’t easy which is why it’s so important to try and push past our misgivings and help anyway when we can. I feel the returns will be more than worth it.
